REAL ESTATE: THURSDAY, APRIL 5TH
New Jersey indie rock sensation REAL ESTATE will be hitting us up here at Strange Matter this April. Lots of buzz going on around these guys so this show is likely to sell out! Pre-sale tickets are being handled a little differently for this one--here's the rundown.
ADVANCE TICKETS for the April 5th show will be on sale starting in the middle of February, available online and in person at STEADY SOUNDS RECORDS (322 W. Broad Street). The venue will not be selling tickets directly.
We'll be sure to post up the ticket link when it becomes available. In the meantime, MASSIVE update to our calendar went live yesterday, with most of our upcoming shows for the next three months. Give it a look.
ABOUT THE GRAVEYARD/RADIO MOSCOW SHOW TUESDAY NIGHT:
We are NOT sold out. We held on to 70-80 tickets for walkups, here's the rundown from Mark O., the man himself:
"20 or 30 tickets will be available in the morning when we open (11AM), these won't last, and are limited to 2 max per person. Strange Matter will be closing at 5PM for a closed soundcheck, and will still have 40 or 50 tickets available when doors open at 8PM... Stop texting me."
JUST ANNOUNCED: GRAVEYARD!!!
Very stoked to be announcing this one. January 17th, 2012 we'll be hosting Sweden's inimitable GRAVEYARD on their tour with the Iowan psych/blues/rock amalgamation known as RADIO MOSCOW. It's all the best parts of Sabbath and CCR mashed up with elements of modern stoner rock and psych. $10 advance tickets are available over the phone at 804-HIP-IS-ME.

BOYS BECOMING MEN, MEN BECOMING WOLVES
Howdy, y'all. Deeply sorry about the inexcusable lack of updates here. A minor redesign of the site is coming next week: the spotlight section is getting merged with this one, the hours of operation have changed, and there is apparently a new menu on the way, among other things. I have heard rumors of people having trouble viewing the site correctly, we are working on that as well. For the time being, though, I would suggest that anyone having trouble viewing the site click here. We have been updating the calendar every Wednesday, and starting next week we will also be posting a preview right here of the upcoming week's shows and events.
In the meantime, here is a cool show coming up this weekend!

HONEY, I BROKE THE INTERNET
Some of you more attentive (and thus, classier) people may have noticed the website shit the bed early this morning. This was my doing. And while I do not regret this, I both rue and lament it. ANYWAYS, it should be all fixed up now.
UPDATES: I added a slew of shows to the calendar and will be adding some more in the next few days as we get more confirmations. Summer is gonna be pretty hectic over here!
Also, the new updated menu is up for your viewing pleasure. Some specials have become permanent fixtures on there, go take a look! GET HUNGRY. WE DELIVER!!
Finally, I added up a few links to the resources section. If you are in a local band and your site isn't linked up there, shoot us an e-mail!
One more quick note before I go: I still haven't gotten any submissions from anyone as far as videos/photos/posters go. Hook it up, dudes.
MAY THE FOURTH BE WITH YOU
The above is definitely not a complete listing, it's an ad I made up a few weeks ago which we ran in the current issue of Style Weekly, their annual "Best of Richmond" issue. Maybe you saw this already, but we somehow lost in the "Best Small Venue" category to... The National?
However, we managed to pull out a win in the newly created "Best Small Venue That Is Actually A Small Venue" category. GO SMATTER. GO SMATTER. IT'S YOUR BIRTHDAY. But, I digress.
I am well aware that all of the flyers over here on the sidebar--------------------------------->
Are for shows that have already happened. I'm working on that right now. Just added a few shows to the good ol' calendar today, including LANDMINES and BATS AND MICE May 20th, WILDILDLIFE on May 31st, THIS WILL DESTROY YOU on June 7th, and an early/all ages show with FOCUSEDXMINDS on June 13th.
We've got quite the weekend coming up here as usual. Yes, much like HEY MERCEDES our weekends start on Wednesday. Tonight, we've got EL TEN ELEVEN, JUNK CULTURE, and LES LA BRITANICA at 9PM. Tomorrow is YOUNG WIDOWS, MY DISCO, and LIGHTS EAST. Friday night we've got ACRASSICAUDA, THE CATALYST, and GULL--More info on that below, but that one starts with a screening of the documentary at 8PM. Sunday we've got a big ass all ages/matinee show with FUNLAND SUPERQUEST, ROY G BIV, TEEN DREAMS, BAD DREAMS, WHITE WALLS, and WHITE LACES. That starts at 5PM, do it!
More updates soon. Pee sout.
HEAVY METAL IN BAGHDAD IN RICHMOND
No time for a spotlight post, since this is pretty short notice! Strange Matter is stoked to host Iraqi heavy metal heathens ACRASSICAUDA on Friday, May 6th. They'll be appearing with local one-man band GULL and special guests, brought to us by Gungho Guide. The band is best known as the subject of the VICE films documentary Heavy Metal In Baghdad and we're pretty lucky to have them in RVA in advance of their upcoming tour. As you can see by the photo above, they are Hetfield approved. Don't miss it! RSVP on Facebook.
APRIL 25TH... BIG UPDATE!
Big update today, folks. I added a post to our spotlight section highlighting the pretty cool happenings here at SM directly before and after this year's Maryland Death Fest. There's another post from two weeks ago in the spotlight you should take a look at (but is something else entirely), it's a show we're really excited about - June 4th with EL TEN ELEVEN, JUNK CULTURE, and LES LA BRITANICA.
A few weeks ago, as some of you may have noticed, I uploaded all of our shows in May and early June. In the next couple of days I'll be posting up those for the rest of June and some of July. Some real cool shit coming up, so keep an eye out right here.
WELCOME TO THE NEW STRANGEMATTERRVA.COM!
Here's our new site, I hope everyone likes it. I am by no means a professional, so you may notice the aesthetic and design of the site is pretty close to that of a death metal band, circa 2003 or so. Actually, I think that was the last project I worked on. Any complaints or suggestions can be forwarded to idontexist@clownpenis.fart.
Below is a quick guide to navigating the site. Most of this is pretty self explanatory, but hey.
HOME: You are looking at it. There's no place like it. Whenever we update the site, I will make a note of it here.
ABOUT: If you're looking for a way to contact us about matters not related to booking, maps or directions to Strange Matter, or you'd just like to take a little trip down memory lane to 929 W. Grace, this is the place.
MENUS: The restaurant is open from 10AM to 10PM Monday thru Saturday, 10AM to 4PM Sunday. Go here to see what we've got for Breakfast, Lunch, or Dinner. Vegan Friendly, Carnivore Approved.
CALENDAR: Go here for a list of our upcoming events, including links to check out the bands before you check out the bands.
GAMES: Strange Matter has them, you don't. Go here to see why all your quarters are belong to us.

BOOKING: For all booking inquiries, please go here.
